Communication - To have high levels of oracy; having a rich and wide vocabulary to be able to explain their own ideas and thinking and be able to collaborate and respond to others.

Whole School Curriculum vision for PSHE

Possibilities

To have high aspirations
To explore and reflect on others views and their personal qualities to develop as an individual

Growth

To recognise and celebrate their own individual journey
To be a strong resilient individual that strives to be their very best, understanding their uniqueness and strengths as well as recognise them in others and valuing differences.

Communication

To have high levels of oracy
To equip the children with a meaningful vocabulary and tools to enable them to articulate and communicate their thoughts and feelings effectively

Implementation:

Our pupils should be able to organise their knowledge, skills and understanding into the following themes:

  • Me and my relationships
  • Valuing difference
  • Keeping myself safe
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Being my best
  • Growing and changing

These key concepts underpin the children’s learning through the year groups from Reception to Year 2. This enables pupils to reinforce and build upon prior learning, make connections and develop subject specific language.

End Point

By the end of Year 2...

A child in our school will be a strong resilient individual who has undergone a journey on an individual basis making progress on their own individual starting points. They will have formed strong relationships with their peers and those around them that are safe and trusting. Children will have developed the tools needed to continue to grow and develop into confident, healthy young people and can use the language of safety to keep themselves and others safe.

Impact

Assessment

Through explicit teaching of PSHE and embedded elements interlinked into our curriculum PSHE is assessed through teacher observation and children’s reflection on their skills and knowledge throughout individual lessons and across the themes taught.

Pupil Voice

In PSHE we know we have done well if we…. ‘Get ticks’ ‘stickers’ ‘values tokens’ ‘well done’ ‘work hard’

In PSHE we show we are ready by ‘sitting like a strong bear’ ‘magnet eyes’ ‘listening ears’ ‘quiet voices’

PSHE is ‘looking after ourselves’ ‘being happy’

In PSHE last term we were learning about the Zones of regulation.

‘Blue – Sad, upset, tired’

‘Red – angry, mad,

‘Yellow – nervous, bubbly

‘Green – happy, calm, relaxed, ready to learn’
