Starting School in Reception - September 2024
Welcome to The Avenue Infant School
We are delighted that your child has been offered a place at The Avenue Infant School and will be joining our Reception year group in September. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child in the coming months and would like to formally welcome you to The Avenue Infant School family.
Starting school is a very exciting time for all involved but also can cause some anxiety. We aim to introduce your child to school life slowly and carefully to ensure a smooth and happy transition to school for everyone involved.
We are looking forward to meeting you and your child and hope that you will both be able to attend the 'getting to know us' dates - these will be sent to you shortly.
Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter to see what is going on at The Avenue!
Play Sessions
We have three of these 'getting to know us' sessions spread over a few weeks. We encourage all children to come to all three of these sessions.
Play session 1 | Tuesday 11th June or Thursday 13th June ** | Please stay with your child at this session |
Play session 2 | Tuesday 25th June or Thursday 27th June ** | Choose to stay with, or leave your child if they are settled |
Play session 3 |
Tuesday 2nd July either morning or afternoon session ** |
Please leave your child for this session. |
** There are two groups which are on different days or times, so please ensure you look at your letter to find out which dates you are invited to.
New Parents' Information Evening
You are invited to a new parents' information evening on Tuesday 9th July at 6.30pm in the school hall. We aim to make this a short session that gives you much of the information you need to help with the starting school process.
Please note this is intended to be an information session for parents/carers and therefore is not suitable for children to attend.

This funding can really help make a significant difference to your child's progress.
If you are in receipt of the following your child could be eligible:
